 I have a question to (maybe, hopefully) get some discussions going...

How / when did all y'all get into Check Please? Anyone here before The Kiss (tm) ?

I'll start: I'd seen pics of The Kiss around Tumblr, but mostly ignored it because I was in grad school and did not have time for another fandom... except one of my RL friends basically poked me until I read it and... yep, here we go again.

I tend to poke at Jack as a trans woman because I am Just That Contrary, but. ERB choosing his dad's name for his wallet name and AUGH KILL ME WITH FEELS WHY DON'T YOU.

I got into it maybe the first arc? I have no idea who linked me, but I have the cognitive dissonance between the comic and reality really, really badly, so I have to remind myself every time that it's an alternate universe, and maybe gender studies and feminism and gender roles are drastically different in that universe. And more accepted.

There's also the fact that I went to a Div 3 school, which I guarantee you is what Samwell has to be, given its type of small liberal arts college in the Northeast, and they *have to be* a NESCAC school, which means that Jack had to have known he was taking a gamble that the NHL would still scout him after that. (I know a couple of our athletes have made it to the Olympics, but as far as I know, they've never been seriously scouted for professional sports because the Div 3/NESCAC schools are much, much better known for the fact that they're *really* strict about maintaining grades and education for sports players as a strict requirement.)

Basically, I love the characters, will probably always have some problems with the premise, and cheerfully ship Shitty/Lardo/Jack/Bitty, and remain annoyed there's very few fics that exist for that.

I'm much, much happier with AU fic than I am actual canon, because, well. Grew up in a hockey culture.

Haha yeah I've like... managed to wrangle my dissonance mostly? But then I go play in the fandom and meet people who think OMGCP is what hockey is really like and just cover my face with my hands.

I got into it because The Kiss was all over my tumblr dash and I got curious when I found out this wasn't fanart for some anime show but the actual canon of a webcomic. I ended up starting the comic really late on a Sunday night and read through the entire thing AND all of the tweets. Spent Monday like a zombie, but it was worth it.
